How to Fix It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You open the remote app, tap your Google TV and\u2026 nothing. No code on the TV, so you can\u2019t finish pairing. This affects the official Google TV app as well as universal remote apps, because they all use the same Android TV Remote pairing system. Here is how to fix it.<\/p>\n<h2>How pairing works (and why it fails)<\/h2>\n<p>When you pick the TV in the app, the phone opens a secure connection to the TV over your local network. The TV answers by showing a 6-character code. You type it on the phone, the two exchange certificates, and from then on the phone is trusted. If the phone can\u2019t reach the TV, or the TV\u2019s remote service is stuck, the code never appears.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 1: Put both on the same network<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Connect the phone to the same Wi-Fi as the TV. Not the guest network: guest networks usually block devices from talking to each other.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off VPNs on the phone while pairing.<\/li>\n<li>With mesh or dual-band routers, both devices are normally on the same network, but avoid \u201cIoT\u201d or isolated networks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Fix 2: Wake the TV completely<\/h2>\n<p>Make sure the TV is fully on and showing the home screen, not in ambient mode or a screensaver. Press Home on whatever you have (the TV\u2019s button, a USB keyboard or a CEC device).<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 3: Restart the TV<\/h2>\n<p>Go to Settings \u203a System \u203a Restart, or unplug the TV for 30 seconds. This resets the remote service and solves most cases.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 4: Clear the Android TV Remote Service<\/h2>\n<p>The component that shows the code is a system app called <strong>Android TV Remote Service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Settings \u203a Apps \u203a See all apps.<\/li>\n<li>Select Show system apps and find Android TV Remote Service.<\/li>\n<li>Choose Force stop, then Clear cache.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the TV and try pairing again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Menu names vary slightly between Google TV and older Android TV versions.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 5: Update the TV<\/h2>\n<p>Check Settings \u203a System \u203a About \u203a System update, and update apps in the Play Store on the TV. Outdated remote services can fail to show the code.<\/p>\n<h2>Fix 6: Type the code correctly<\/h2>\n<p>Codes are hexadecimal: only 0\u20139 and A\u2013F. There is no letter O, only zero. Codes expire quickly, so if you took a while, start over.
