Your phone has a perfectly good keyboard, and there are several ways to use it on the TV.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 1: A remote app with a keyboard<\/h2>\n<p>Most smart TV platforms accept text sent over the network:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google TV \/ Android TV:<\/strong> when a text field is active, the Google TV app and universal apps can send text directly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Roku:<\/strong> the Roku app and universal apps send keystrokes to search and sign-in screens.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Samsung:<\/strong> text can be sent to the TV\u2019s input fields over the network.<\/li>\n<li><strong>LG webOS:<\/strong> text is inserted in the active field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How to do it:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pair the app with your TV (one time).<\/li>\n<li>On the TV, select the search or password field.<\/li>\n<li>Open the app\u2019s keyboard, type and send.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/remotapp.com\/\">RemotApp<\/a>, the keyboard works on Samsung, LG, Roku and Google TV and has a paste button, so you can copy a password from your password manager and send it in one tap. It\u2019s part of the Pro plan; the basic remote stays free.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 2: Sign in with your phone<\/h2>\n<p>Many streaming apps avoid TV typing entirely:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The TV shows a QR code or a short code.<\/li>\n<li>You open the link on your phone, where you are already signed in, and confirm.<\/li>\n<li>The TV signs in by itself.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Look for options like \u201cSign in with phone\u201d, \u201cUse mobile device\u201d or \u201cActivate\u201d on the sign-in screen. It is the safest method because your password never passes through the TV.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 3: A USB or Bluetooth keyboard<\/h2>\n<p>Google TV, Android TV, LG and many Samsung models accept USB keyboards, and most accept Bluetooth ones too. It is a good choice if you type on the TV often, for example when using a browser. Roku TVs generally don\u2019t support keyboards.<\/p>\n<h2>Option 4: Voice search<\/h2>\n<p>For searches (not passwords), the microphone button on Google TV, Roku voice and Samsung or LG remotes is the quickest option. Some remote apps also offer voice input through the phone\u2019s dictation.<\/p>\n<h2>Tips<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>If the app\u2019s keyboard doesn\u2019t seem to do anything, make sure a text field is selected on the TV first.<\/li>\n<li>Some TV apps use their own on-screen keyboard and ignore network text.
