Which Samsung TVs work
- Samsung — Tizen (Samsung Smart TV)
Step by step
- Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV. (Not the guest network.)
- Turn the TV on and install RemotApp on your phone.
- Open RemotApp. It finds the TVs on your network by itself; tap your Samsung TV.
- A message appears on the TV asking to allow a new device. Select “Allow”.
- Tap Volume + to test. That’s it: your phone is now the remote.
If it doesn’t connect
- If you chose “Deny” by mistake: on the TV go to Settings › General › External Device Manager › Device Connection Manager › Device List, remove RemotApp and try again.
- In Device Connection Manager, set “Access Notification” to “First Time Only”, so the TV doesn’t ask again every time.
- Samsung TVs from before 2016 (non-Tizen) use a different protocol and aren’t supported yet.
- Make sure the phone isn’t using a VPN and that the router doesn’t isolate devices (“AP isolation” / “client isolation”). On iPhone, check Settings › RemotApp › Local Network.
How to turn on a Samsung TV without the remote
Turn on “Power On with Mobile” in Settings › General › Network › Expert Settings. With it on, the TV keeps listening on Wi-Fi while in standby and RemotApp can wake it.
Menu names vary a little by model and software version.
